The AILA NE DEI Committee invites you to chat about the place of culture and religion in our work – a timely discussion for us as a profession, since culture, religion and identity have become central to the government’s drive in restricting entry and expanding enforcement. Some questions and issues to be considered:

• How culture & religion shapes our work as immigration attorneys?
• Can we leverage cultural competence to promote the growth of our practices? How does it affect our bottom line?
• How do our own identities and lived experiences influence client relationships?
• Dealing with cultural differences and making value judgements
• Advocating for cultural and religious freedoms? For ourselves? For our clients? In government spaces? In our practices?
• Handling conflicts and biases (especially within complex advocacy spaces)
